Keep Me in the Moment.

One of my favorite song lyrics comes from the song, Keep Me in the Moment, by Jeremy Camp. The chorus goes,

Oh Lord, keep me in the moment

Help me live with my eyes wide open

'Cause I don't wanna miss what you have for me

To me this song is a constant reminder that in times where I get ahead of myself, I need to step back and get in check with my thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I have found myself in situations where I let my anxious thoughts, nerves, and worry take over which leaves my soul unsettled. Oftentimes this has been because I seek control which leads to putting the weight of the world on my shoulders. I know that I am not alone in feeling this, and many of you reading this know exactly what I am talking about.

The phrase in this song, keep me in the moment, has been a constant reminder that I have to give myself. In the age of social media and crazy schedules, being present in each moment just doesn't seem realistic. It is easy to forget that each day we get is a gift from God.

In Psalm 118:24 we are reminded that,

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Too many times we wish our days away and constantly look to future moments or reflect on past moments; in the end we can find ourselves forgetting to live in the present moment. Living in any other moment besides the present is simply a waste of time. We cannot change what has already happened, and we have no control over what will happen. So, why do we focus the most on the past and future, instead of the moment that we are in right now?

For me it was always because of worry. I worried about things that had already happened, and I was worried about what was to come. I found that this was true for me in school, sports, relationships, etc. To put it in the simplest form, I was just worried about what people thought about me in every moment of time. I was focused on things that were completely out of my control, which crowded my present moment with a constant state of worry and anxiety. Let me tell ya, being worried and anxious all the time doesn't leave a lot of room to rejoice and be glad.

The word rejoice is defined as, to feel or show great joy or delight. So my question for you is, how are you going to rejoice and be glad in each moment if you are living in the past and present? And my answer for you is that you can't. It just simply doesn't make sense that you are going to be happy when you're worried about the uncontrollable. You will not be able feel great joy and delight when you're in a constant state of wondering about what is to come and what has already come.

My call to you then is this, rejoice and be glad in each moment of each day. You woke up today for a reason, to LIVE. By live I don't just mean being alive and having breath, I mean truly living in each moment and treating the present like the gift from God that it is.

The rest of the song says, Help me live with my eyes wide open, 'cause I don't wanna miss what you have for me. Go out this week, live with your eyes open, rejoice in each moment, and don't miss the goodness that you get in each day of life. We won't live on this earth forever, let's not waste time on things that cannot be controlled.

Sending prayers for your soul to be at peace in knowing whatever is going to happen is in God's hands. Trust in Him and let your soul rest easy in knowing that living in the present moment is what God calls us to do.

Be patient.

Rejoice and be glad knowing that God loves you and that He is in control. Put your worries and anxieties away, and just choose Joy.

Sending you so much love today and everyday!
